ETFE Skylight Brings Daylight into Retail Space
Prior to the upgrade, only a small skylight allowed daylight into the mall. The new ETFE system dramatically increased the amount of natural light, helping create a more pleasant environment for visitors and encouraging them to spend more time exploring retail spaces. Natural light also contributes to better ambience and perceived comfort in large covered public areas.

Print Pattern and Climate Control
Partial print pattern on the ETFE layer helps control solar heat gain.
The ETFE cushions include a partial print pattern on one foil layer. This helps control solar heat gain and improves comfort underneath the skylight while retaining good transparency. The combination of light transmission and shading makes the space more comfortable in Malaysia’s tropical climate, where high sun angles and heat can otherwise make interior spaces feel closed and overheated.

Integration with Architectural Goals
The project’s primary architectural objective was to rethink the mall’s roof strategy – moving from a small opening to a much larger, daylight-flooded ETFE solution that supports retail performance and user wellbeing. With the new ETFE skylight in place, the space below benefits from both protection and brightness, making it more inviting for visitors.
