ETFE for the Philippines: Aseana PARQAL features 8,250 m² of elevated ETFE canopies that deliver daylight, shading and low maintenance for Manila’s retail boulevard.

The flexibility of ETFE makes it well-suited for regions subject to seismic activity and heavy winds, like the Philippines. The material’s durability, resistance to UV and low maintenance requirements ensure long-term performance, especially in tropical conditions.

8,250 m²
of ETFE
Located in Parañaque City, Metro Manila, Aseana PARQAL is a linear mixed-use development that stretches across approximately 900 metres. Designed to blend retail, offices and green spaces, the project features 8,250 m² of elevated ETFE canopies above the retail strip. These canopies provide shelter from the sun, rain and storm-driven weather, making the outdoor promenade more comfortable and usable throughout the year.
Lightweight Design With Visual Clarity

Elevated roofing gives a floating appearance above the allyway.
The canopies are supported by slender steelwork, allowing the ETFE roofs to appear as if they float above the alleyway. This transparent cover creates a welcoming, naturally ventilated environment while protecting visitors from tropical elements.
The elevated height also allows tall vegetation and trees to thrive underneath.

With high light-transmission ETFE foil, all visible light wavelengths penetrate through the roof, encouraging growth of planted areas beneath and reducing the need for artificial lighting during the day. A silver-pigmented print on the top layer of the two-layer cushions reflects solar radiation, lowering heat gain and improving comfort in Manila’s warm and humid climate.
Because the ETFE system is extremely lightweight, less structural steel was required, reducing material use and embodied energy. The flexibility of ETFE makes it well-suited for regions subject to seismic activity and heavy winds. The material’s durability, resistance to UV and low maintenance requirements ensure long-term performance, especially in tropical conditions.
