Why You Should Note This Project
2021 was the year of ETFE in Malaysia! We built the first ETFE canopy in the country, at the Sheraton Kuching Hotel in Malaysia’s vibrant ‘Golden Triangle’. The 5-star hotel is the third of this prestigious brand in Malaysia. Architects originally planned a glass entrance canopy. Instead, the design pivoted to a single-layer ETFE canopy, delivering key advantages in project delivery and material efficiency.

Vector Foiltec Asia Pacific as the One-Stop-Shop
The most challenging part of the design was the overlapping planes of the 2 sections and designing for installation and future maintenance.
Opting for ETFE dramatically reduced steel and structural support requirements, helping control both cost and schedule demands. ETFE’s remarkable lightweight profile enables faster erection without compromising strength, ideal for tight timelines and urban construction zones like Kuching.
Vector Foiltec Asia Pacific designed, engineered, fabricated and installed the single layer cushion with 11 ETFE panels. The most challenging part of the design was the 16 meter cantilever.
