The Story of the Project

Translucent ETFE Roof with Dynamic Illumination

The ETFE roof at Falcon Mall uses a system tailored for both functional shelter and visual impact. During daytime, the ETFE cushions admit soft, diffused natural light, creating a bright and welcoming interior atmosphere. In the evening, the ETFE roof becomes a backdrop for LED illumination, enhancing the mall’s identity and visual presence after dark.

The combination of high transparency and integrated lighting allows the canopy to transform from a daylight-filled cover into an illuminated architectural element that supports branding, wayfinding and aesthetic appeal within the complex.

ETFE was chosen for its lightweight properties and its ability to deliver consistent performance in a range of conditions. The roof system is compatible with structural movement and allows flexibility in supporting frame design – factors that enable broad spans, minimal supporting elements, and efficient engineering. Its transparency and optical qualities make it an ideal surface for LED lighting integration without compromising daylight performance.

Scope of Delivery

Vector Foiltec Asia Pacific was responsible for the design, engineering, fabrication, supply and installation of the ETFE roof and integrated illumination system. The company coordinated closely with the design team and local construction partners to ensure that the ETFE system fulfilled both architectural intent and technical performance requirements.
